After our sojourns to the art school and Callejon De Hamel it was time to feed our hunger. Lovely lunch at Le Maraleja. Near the University it was another great choice which had received the Oriel stamp of approval. http://www.lamoraleja-cuba.com/ Throughout our visit Oriel made certain that we dined proper Cuban eateries, not those catering to the tourists. Each place he took us to met that criteria. ALL were wonderful. In fact, every meal I ate in Havana was delightful. With a bit of irony he was exposed to a new place that was a recommendation by someone we met. He was leery, hemmed and hawed, but gamely went along to discover that Decameron was a fabulous paladar. Excellent food and service. Charming atmosphere. Three smalls rooms and a tiny bar. Each room adorned with working antique clocks. In fact, after all others had left for the States, Oriel, Dr. Kim and I returned there for another fabulous respite.
Well, you know me and my love of wandering around cemeteries. Kim and Oriel left me to it whilst they did promo shots of Oriel wearing a Falls Road Veterinary Clinic tee shirt which is Dr. Kim's 24 animal clinic in Baltimore. Found it amusing when I walked out of the property to see Oriel posing near a light post with Kim snapping pics like mad. Guess it is ALL about advertising!?!
As we strolled away from the cemetery into the adjacent neighborhood we came upon John Lennon Plaza. Who knew?!
There sat John and on a nearby bench two older men. As we approached Lennon's statue one of the men arose, pulled some spectacles from his pocket and placed them on the bridge of John's nose. Of course we asked the man to sit down. He obliged.
