The National Art Schools

Built where a country club for Havana's upper echelon used to play, this innovative creation is consider by historians to be an outstanding architectural achievement of the revolution. Conceived by Fidel and Che these schools initially provided a nurturing environment for Cuba's emerging actors, dancers, musicians and artists. The design included 5 schools: Modern Dance, Plastic Arts, Modern Arts, Dramatic Arts, Music and Ballet. All were built but not all were occupied and a combination of politics and ego doomed some to abandonment. A resurgence of their prominence came in the mid 90's and in 1999 restoration began. However, little has been done and the result provides an intriguing backdrop for the school's students AND a Location Scout's delight.
Interesting to see the decay AND laptops.
